His Goodness Surrounds Me

I wrote this back in the Fall and am just getting around to posting it... :)

"I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living." Psalm 27:13

You know you’re behind on laundry when two of the biggest piles of clothes you fold are too small for your children. That’s what happened today. As I rushed to fold 2 of the 5 baskets full of clean laundry while my 9 month old took a morning nap. The piles of “too small” just grew and grew and grew and I thought to myself, “really?”

However, today I was able to laugh about it instead of cry. Then I put them away for the next one down. You might wonder what this has to do with His goodness surrounding me.  Well, THAT is why I was able to laugh instead of cry.

Believe me, on days when I’m not so aware of my gracious Lord’s hand on my life, I cry, but today I laughed, because I see it. I see His hand of blessing in every corner of every closet surrounding me. I see it in each of my four young children’s eyes and in their laughter; their hugs and kisses. I see it in my husband and in my drive to and from the grocery store where the trees are showing of the most beautiful fall colors. The sky is crisp blue with fluffy white clouds rolling across it. I hear it in the music blaring from my speakers. He’s all around me today girls. It's as if He’s giving me a gentle hug at every turn, with every breath. How I wish I sensed Him this way each and EVERY day.

I know He never changes and He always surrounds me.  So, what changes? I do.

What I mean is that I don’t look for Him, listen for Him, wait for Him the way I did today. I love the way He uses music to bless my soul! Singing worship music or Christian music in general always draws my heart to Him. He responds when we worship in spirit and in truth and in my case most of the time, in desperation! I worshiped Him. I sang to Him from my mouth, but more importantly from my heart and He took that worship and turned it into a beautiful moment with Him.

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”  James 4:8

What’s going to stand in your way today? A list of things to do? Screaming children? A demanding job?  HORMONES?!  I beg of you, don’t let anything get in your way!  Go and worship your Father the way He has shaped to worship Him, even if it’s for 5 minutes, go.  Go now!  Please don’t let anything steal a refreshed spirit from you today.  You need it to be the mom, wife, friend, etc. you are called to be.

Worshiping your creator connects you with the source of all of life’s goodness.  Take the time to enjoy Him today, to praise Him today, to thank Him today.  You won’t be sorry you did.
